Sonoma County has officially secured 1,517 acres of prime redwood forest and vital headwater streams in the Monte Rio Redwoods Expansion, preserving the land forever. Sonoma County Supervisor Lynda Hopkins announced the milestone on her social media, calling it “a day of wonder and magic for West County.”

Hopkins wrote, “This isn’t just a conservation success. It’s an act of long-term stewardship: preserving habitat, safeguarding water, and strengthening the climate resilience of our region.” She praised the effort as years in the making and thanked partners and advocates, including Sonoma County Parks, Save the Redwoods League, Sonoma Land Trust, and the seller, Mendocino Redwoods Company.

The 1,517-acre property links protected lands from the Russian River to the Sonoma Coast, expanding Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park from 515 to over 2,000 acres. It features towering coast redwoods, open meadows, and headwaters of three key salmon streams. The acquisition creates a continuous corridor of more than 22,000 acres of protected wildlands.

  1. Slyly putting political slogans in your reports shows a lack of knowledge or just carelessness. “From the river to the Sea” is the slogan that Hamas and Palestine use. Maybe you did that on purpose, or you use AI, either way, I didn’t read the article.

  2. Poor choice of wording in your headline. Why would you choose to be so political when it was unnecessary? I am disappointed in you Matt LaFever.

    • It’s a tactic used in modern media. Intentional mistakes, whoopsies, and controversy generate more comments. This was so Intentional to get traffic to an otherwise bland article.

    • Thanks for not lulling me to sleep with that silly old cliche Haiku is Ukiah spelled backwards.
      Crappy town and crappy poetry.

Hope to see you at the next secret TRUMPANZEE meeting.
Until then cheers and bottoms up!
