Locatelli explained that the 34-year-old man was not going to be released until November, but because of COVID-19 cases within Soledad State Prison, he was out early.
“The flashlight then turned to a laser dot light that was illuminated on the side of the patrol car. At this time, the Deputy heard multiple gunshots coming from McKey’s position at the front of the residence.”
Van Patten said officers noticed the 34-year-old male lying on the ground struggling to breathe. One of the tenants told the officers that the man had ingested a significant amount of heroin moments before, reported Van Patten. At this point, officers attempted to administer three doses of Narcan, a medication used to counteract an opioid overdose’s effects. Van Patten described those life-saving efforts as unsuccessful.
“A total of 6970 marijuana plants, ranging in height from 1 foot to 7 feet, were eradicated from the 45 gardens. 1860 pounds of dried marijuana bud was located and destroyed. In one building on the property deputies located a false wall behind which they found 4 assault rifles, one bolt action rifle, and three handguns hidden in the wall (pictured below). One of the handguns was reported stolen out of the Stockton area.”

Sheriff Kendall said the raid was a continuation of MCSO’s efforts to rid Covelo of illegal marijuana. Ultimately, Sheriff Kendall said the aim of the raids is to demonstrate that it is “too expensive” to grow illegally in Round Valley.
“During the trial, evidence showed that on October 17, 2013, in the vicinity of Fort Bragg, California, Ma, 53, of Oakland, shot and killed Kong and Chen while the couple was seated in their minivan in a secluded, wooded area off of a county road.”
“Additional UPD Officers arrived on scene and contacted Halvorsen’s 7-year-old daughter who was iån the back seat of the vehicle. Halvorsen submitted to field sobriety tests and completed a preliminary alcohol breath test which showed her blood alcohol at over three times the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle in the State of California.”
“Lucas then obtained a gasoline can from the back of his vehicle and poured gasoline over his body and the interior of the vehicle. Lucas threatened to “blow up” himself and Deputies near him.”
“During an investigation into the incident, Deputies determined a verbal argument had taken place and escalated into a physical confrontation, where Day reportedly pushed the adult female to the ground. Deputies observed the adult female had sustained minor visible injuries consistent with the reported assault.”
