Laytonville Fire Department Chief Sue Carberry confirmed a single double-wide trailer has burned and there was spread to the wildland.

As of this evening, Redwood Valley Broiler Fire has burned 80 acres, stands at 20% containment, and officially one structure was destroyed. Information published by Cal Fire Mendocino Unit in their evening “Incident Report” indicates approximately 80 structures were threatened and Fire resources will remain at the scene overnight establishing control lines.

A firefighter on scene suggested the fire was approximately one acre in size near a creek bed.
Ukiah Valley Fire Authority Battalion Chief Justin Buckingham told us he is investigating the cause of the fire and has determined two potential causes: the flames being sparked by a cigarette or an intentional act of arson.
At approximately 6:40 p.m. firefighters responded to reports of a porch burning near the County Administration Buildings on Low Gap Road and by 6:45 Mendocino County Probation Department’s Daily Reporting Center was fully engulfed in flames.

A number of firefighting resources were dispatched to the scene and the Incident Commander confirmed a fire is burning currently 3-4 acres in size, burning in timber, and moving at a slow rate of spread.
The Incident Commander reported locals extinguished the fire by the time he arrived and clarified that the fire did not spread to nearby vegetation.
All aircraft have returned to base though and firefighters have the area secure.

Ukiah Valley Fire Authority Battalion Chief Eric Singleton said firefighters found a “mattress with burns on it” when they responded to the scene.” He described the fire as “smoldering” by the time firefighters arrived and confirmed the arson investigator determined it was purposefully lit.

Nearby the site of the fire is a reportedly a gas leak at 747 Waugh Lane that is complicating firefighting efforts.
