There are initial reports from the scene that the fire was a 50×50 spot and was extinguished by locals but first responders are awaiting confirmation.
At 8:59 p.m. the dispatcher indicated Ukiah Police Department was requested at the scene to investigate a potential arson.

Scanner traffic at 9:03 p.m. indicated firefighters are responding to the 5000 block of Yokayo Ranch Road after reports emerged of a “boom” heard in the area as well as flames being seen.
A responding unit described heavy winds stoking the flames to a “large fire” resulting in the evacuation of apartments and “everything east of the fire.”
Initial reports described the Timber Fires as approximately 3-5 acres burning in timber and grass, burning at a slow rate of spread. The Incident Commander reported that at least one structure was actively involved and multiple others were threatened.

Lauren Schmitt, KMUD’s intrepid reporter, bravely trekked behind the fire lines of yesterday’s Bell Fire to bring our readers images of the fire’s destruction.
The reporting party told dispatch the fire has produced a large column of smoke and first responders are estimating the fire is currently 10 acres in size.
Laytonville Fire Chief Sue Carberry confirmed Laytonville Fire Department personnel are on scene and said that an outbuilding and vehicle are “fully involved.” She added there is “no extension into wildland.”
