Sheriff Kendall said the helicopter residents have seen at the airport is in fact from Custom and Border Protection’s air and marine unit and is being used to spot illegal marijuana farms.
“For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed the vehicle to run off the road and collide with a large oak tree. Nearby residents assisted the injured occupants out of the Mazda as it erupted into flames. All occupants of the vehicle suffered moderate to major injuries as a result of the collision and were transported to various northern California hospitals.”
“While units were in route, one of the reporting parties informed the Ukiah Communication Center the driver of the involved vehicle had jumped off the bridge.”

Van Patten said officers noticed the 34-year-old male lying on the ground struggling to breathe. One of the tenants told the officers that the man had ingested a significant amount of heroin moments before, reported Van Patten. At this point, officers attempted to administer three doses of Narcan, a medication used to counteract an opioid overdose’s effects. Van Patten described those life-saving efforts as unsuccessful.
