On Friday, January 29, 2021, medical personnel responded to Road 337L in Covelo regarding a 5-year-old who had been bitten in the face by a white pit bull that subsequently fled.
Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten told us deputies responded to the scene after the child had already been taken to the hospital.
Captain Van Patten explained that a deputy and animal control officer responded to the scene to “make sure there was not a vicious dog running around the public.”
The deputy and animal control officer “contacted the owner who surrendered three dogs,” Captain Van Patten explained. He added that it is unclear whether the dog involved in the bite was surrendered or found.
As to the status of the three dogs surrendered to MCSO, Captain Van Patten said they are currently in Ukiah’s Animal Care facility.
