Since Saturday, February 13, 2021, Highway 101’s Last Chance Grade in Del Norte County has experienced a landslide event that has closed both the north and southbound lanes.

For a brief window on the evening of February 14, the highway was open to one-way, controlled traffic but soon afterward rocks and mud fell once again closing the main north-to-south artery.

A post from the CalTrans District 1 Facebook page reads, “U.S. 101 remains fully closed due to slide at Last Chance Grade. There was significant slide activity last night. Crews are removing slide material from the roadway. We estimate one-way traffic control may begin this afternoon assuming no additional slide activity occurs.”

For the latest information, travelers can refer to the CalTrans QuickMap for updates.
