At 2:07 a.m., a Point Arena woman collided with a tree near the intersection of Iverson Road and Ten Mile Cutoff Road after which she succumbed to fatal injuries.

A press release from the California Highway Patrol identified the Point Arena woman as 38-year-old Mayra Torres Nunez. Nunez was driving a white 2009 Nissan Versa going northbound on Iverson Road when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed the intersection onto a dirt/grass shoulder resulting in the vehicle colliding with a tree.

Nunez suffered a major head injury which proved to be fatal. Investigators determined that Nunez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and it is unknown if alcohol is a factor in the collision.

The press release indicated that CHP is still investigating to determine the cause of the collision.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the woman’s family and friends.
