A children’s birthday party was left disappointed yesterday when their beach scavenger hunt birthday party was thwarted by thieves when the culminating prize of a treasure chest packed with goodies was no where to be found.
Trying to understand what happened to the treasure chest, Gisela Ornelas, the mother of one of the children who attended, said the parents were told by people nearby “a family with 3 children and a blue umbrella were carrying the treasure chest away from the beach.”
After working the clues of the scavenger hunt and the treasure chest was nowhere to be found, Ornelas said, “The kids were devastated and sad. They worked so hard. The parents were so upset and in tears. The kids watched The Goonies movie the night before to remember some clues. They were so excited for it.”
Ornelas said “the kids worked for over an hour, following clues to discover that the treasure chest was stolen and no longer the spot his parents placed it.” She explained, “The kids found the keys during the hunt to unlock the chest when found.”
In the wake of the anti-climatic scavenger hunter, Ornelas said the parents, “worked so hard and put so much time into this hunt for their 9-year-old son. Imagine how all those kiddos feel?”
The birthday party took place yesterday, April 11, at Big River Beach around 2:00 p.m. If you know anything about the location of the missing treasure, email Gisela Ornelas at Giselaornelas92@gmail.com.
These are the kinds of selfish and horribly insensitive occurrences that cut deeply into the trust and synergy, “the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, other agents OR individuals to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects” of a close, comfortable and collaborative community.
