On Sunday, April 18, 2021, 50-year-old Laytonville man, Raymond Lee Martinez, was arrested for criminal threats, possession of a billy club, and public intoxication after chasing employees of a Ukiah Starbucks causing them to fear for their safety, according to Ukiah Police Department Lieutenant Andy Phillips.
Lieutenant Phillips told us Martinez “held the metal club over his shoulder in an aggressive manner while chasing employees.” Martinez’s behavior caused the Starbucks employees to be “in immediate fear for their safety.” When officers responded to the scene, Martinez was intoxicated and “located inside the business’s restroom and was armed with a metal club.”
Martinez had been at the Starbucks location causing a disturbance the day before, explained Lieutenant Phillips, but Martinez had left prior to the officer’s arrival.
As per the Mendocino County Sheriff Booking Logs, Martinez’s bail was set at $130,000 and appears to still be an inmate as of today, April 22.
It is important to note this information has not been proven in a court of law and any individual described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
I’m confused…. during the last planning and building meeting one board member kept repeating the same point. We need to get the people out of the woods and back into town. I think it is completely rude to invite the back woods residents to town and then arrest them.
