June 5, 1879 – The house formerly used as a toll house on the Big River Bridge was sold at a public auction held by Big River District’s Road-overseer George Switzer. The toll bridge had become a free bridge financed by a special tax district the previous year.
E. W. Blair payed $90 for the toll house. His wife Hattie had once served as the toll taker. This building was located on the beach at the north end of the bridge.
