Shooting Investigation in Clearlake Oaks Results in Arrest After Suspect Attempts to Spray Deputy with Bear Mace, Says LCSO

The following is a press release issued by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On January 12th, 2022, at approximately 4:30 am, The Lake County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received numerous reports of shots being fired in the 11000 block of Garden Court in Clearlake Oaks.

Deputies had responded to the same area in regards to similar reports on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, at approximately 8:13 pm hours and were unable to identify the responsible party.

Today, Deputies arrived on scene and set up a perimeter to ensure the community’s safety. Deputies were able to identify the responsible party, Benjamin Wilkinson, 62, of Clearlake Oaks. While taking Wilkinson into custody, Wilkinson attempted to spray a deputy with bear spray, and a short struggle ensued prior to Wilkinson being taken into custody.

Wilkinson was later transported and booked at the Lake County Correctional Facility for Felony Shooting at Inhabited Dwellings, Resisting Arrest, and Misdemeanor Illegal Use of Tear Gas.

No injuries related to the shots fired or Wilkinson being taken into custody were reported.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident and asks anyone with information related to this incident to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Detective Jeffrey Mora jeffrey.mora@lakecountyca.gov.

Not silly why is this silly I live next door to where this happened try spending 2 hours on the floor under your coffee table while the sherrif takes two hours to respond taking their sweet time dragging their feet while you and your neighbours are under seige and bullets are flying thru your windows.
    Stupid person that says this is silly it took years off of our lives we were in such fear for so long they gave his guns back to him the 2nd time they respond ed too and asked me to go outside and take pictures for proof fools!
