Fort Bragg Morning Structure Fire Results in Fatality

Categories:

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten has confirmed this morning’s structure fire in Fort Bragg resulted in one death.

Due to the condition of the body, Captain Van Patten said a positive identification has yet to be established, but investigators believe they “know who the person is and are seeking methods to attempt to ID him” including using medical records and DNA analysis.

We have reached out to Fort Bragg Fire Department regarding details of the fire itself but have yet to hear from them as of the time of publication.

Scanner traffic from this morning indicates firefighters were dispatched to Fort Bragg’s Burrough Ranch Road around 7:06 after a reporting party described a “fully involved structure.” The dispatcher told first responders explosions were heard and at one point the Incident Commander requested an air ambulance but later canceled it. By 7:32 a.m., the fire was reported to be knocked down and mop-up began.
