27-year-old Austin Michael Medeiros is suspected of killing a 28-year-old Humboldt County woman this last Sunday, April 3, 2022, and authorities believe he could be en route to Mendocino County.

As per press releases from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, a caregiver attempted to enter the Kneeland home of  28-year-old Emily Rose May Lobba this last Sunday but was denied entry by a male later identified as Medeiros. An argument ensued, Medeiros reportedly assaulted the caregiver and then fled the location driving Lobba’s vehicle. The caregiver went inside to check on Lobba and found her deceased.

HCSO is withholding the cause of Lobba’s death to maintain the “integrity of the investigation.”

As deputies responded to the Kneeland residence, they observed Medeiros driving Lobba’s vehicle, and attempted a traffic stop, which then became a vehicle pursuit. Medeiros evaded law enforcement until arriving at the Arcata Community Forest where he foot bailed and despite a multi-agency search, has yet to be located.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office investigators have determined that Medeiros is likely heading to Mendocino County and has warned drivers “against providing transportation to hitchhikers.”

27-year-old Austin Michael Medeiros is a resident of Warwick, Rhode Island. He stands 5′ 6″, weighs 125 pounds, and has long brown/blonde hair and hazel eyes. He reportedly has a face tattoo underneath an eye, though what it depicts is not known.
