A Coast Guard MH65 helicopter crew hoisted three stranded hikers from the Lost Coast Monday evening when inclement weather, rain-flooded creeks, and high seas cut off their only routes out.

Watchstanders in the Sector Humboldt Bay command center received a request from Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the rescue of the three hikers from the Lost Coast Trail south of Punta Gorda. Fortunately, the hikers had a commercial satellite messenger that allowed them to notify authorities of their situation.

Bravo Zulu to the aircrew for a well-executed mission, and especially to LT Meyer for her first live rescue! And thanks as always to HCSO for their partnership in protecting the people of the North Coast.

Crew:
CDR Kevin Barres
LT Ashley Meyer
AST1 Graham McGinnis
AET3 Ethan Ward
