The California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page indicates that State Route 162, the primary thoroughfare for Round Valley residents to Highway 101 west of the reservation, has been shut down due to a rock slide.

Last night at 11:11 p.m., reports emerged of a rock slide composed of boulders as “larger as cars” strewn across the lanes around mile marker 10. This resulted in the closure of both lanes.

Caltrans is now on scene working to clear the roadway and secure the slide, but it should be noted at 4:50 a.m. workers reported that the slide was still active and traffic would need to be diverted at State Route 162 and Dos Rios.

At 6:00 a.m., estimates indicated the road would be closed at least till noon today.

UPDATE 8:41 p.m.: As per reports of multiple commuters and confirmed by the Caltrans dispatch center, State Route 162 has reopened.
