The following is a press release issued by the Santa Rosa Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On 05/02/22, at approximately 0344 hours, a SRPD officer conducted a traffic stop on a small U-Haul box truck for a vehicle code violation. The vehicle was occupied by two male adults and one male juvenile. The officer obtained consent from the adult driver to search the passenger compartment of the vehicle. As the driver exited the vehicle, he fled on foot northbound on Santa Rosa Av. The officer gave chase and caught the driver in the parking lot of the Quality Inn where he detained him without incident. Additional officers arrived at the location of the U-Haul and the other two occupants were gone. A loaded AK-47 style assault rifle was located in plain view on the passenger seat. The other two occupants were not located.
The driver, identified as 19 year-old Santa Rosa resident Nathan Roark, was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for the following felony violations:
-30605(a) PC,- Unlawful possession of an assault weapon.
-25850(a) PC – Possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
-32625(a) PC – Possession of a machine gun.
And a midemeanor violation of 148(a)(1) PC – Resisting arrest.
