Dear Editor-
In the years of 2013 to 2018 the Anderson Valley Unified School District had a series of problems due to the poor leadership of Michelle Hutchins, who was the District Superintendent during those years. I worked for AVUSD at that time and saw first hand how her inability to work collaboratively with others impacted every aspect of the school. The Anderson Valley Teachers Association and the Anderson Valley Classified Employees Association both gave Ms. Hutchins a Vote of No Confidence. As it turns out, that was the second Vote of No Confidence that Ms. Hutchins had received, the first one being in Mountain Valley School District.
On March 9th, Ms. Hutchins participated in a candidates forum that was live streamed by The Mendocino Voice. In that forum, when asked how many Votes of No Confidence she had received, Ms. Hutchins responded, “I have received a Vote of No Confidence-and actually, I’m proud of it, because of what I’ve learned.” She then went on to downplay the significance of a Vote of No Confidence, blame Anderson Valley School Board Members, and avoid altogether acknowledging that she had received two Votes of No Confidence. It appears she has not actually learned from her experiences at all.
Schools in Mendocino County need and deserve to have a County Superintendent with a proven track record of successful leadership. Nicole Glentzer is the only candidate who has a record of providing this sort of leadership.
