This morning, multiple agencies have converged on the 24000 block of State Route 20 outside of Fort Bragg to find 74-year-old Thomas Arrants, a man that suffers from dementia and has not been seen since yesterday afternoon.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten told us Arrants was last seen at his residence near the 24000 block of Highway 20 yesterday at 1:00 p.m.

Arrants’s family contacted MCSO at 8:47 p.m. last night after conducting their own several-hour search of the surrounding area.

Last night, Captain Van Patten said that deputies, along with the assistance of CAL FIRE, conducted a hasty search in the darkness to no avail.

This morning, Mendocino County’s Search and Rescue team along with CAL FIRE and National Guard Personnel are amassing to search for the missing man.

Captain Van Patten noted that Arrants is known to walk for extended periods and has “gone missing under similar circumstances previously.”

UPDATE 8:33 p.m.: MCSO Captain Greg Van Patten told us that despite today’s efforts, Thomas Arrants remains missing.

This could mean the missing man has been exposed to the elements for over 24 hours at this point and tonight would be his second night outdoors.

Over fifty Search and Rescue personnel will be searching the area tomorrow. Captain Van Patten said organizers are forecasting the possibility of continuing the search into the weekend if needed.
