[UPDATE: Contained]Vegetation Fire in Covelo

A quarter-acre vegetation fire is reportedly burning on a Covelo hillside near the intersection of Rifle Range Road and Refuse Road threatening a nearby, unoccupied trailer.

The Incident Commander described the fire as a quarter-acre in size burning in timber and slash at a slow rate of spread. He added the area is associated with vehicle fires in the recent past.

Scanner traffic began around 7:50 p.m. indicating a reporting party witnessed a “small fire burning on the hillside” in the area.

A second reporting party described the fire as approximately a half-acre in size with an unoccupied trailer threatened by the flames.

UPDATE 8:43 p.m.: The Incident Commander relayed to dispatch that the fire has been contained measuring at .12 acre. He added there was no trailer involved. Crews will be on the scene for approximately two hours mopping up the incident.
