The following is a press release issued by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On 10/29/2022, at approximately 0545 hours, an unknown male party was driving an unknown color Ford Escape northbound on US-101. Just north of La Franci Road at unknown speeds, for unknown reasons, the driver of the Ford made an unsafe turning movement causing the vehicle to leave the east roadway edge of US-101 northbound. The vehicle continued to travel northbound on the gravel shoulder. While traveling on the shoulder, the Ford collided with an oak tree. After colliding with the tree, the Ford suffered major front-end damage, caught fire, and became fully engulfed. The driver of the Ford succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.
It is unknown whether alcohol or drug use was a factor in the cause of the collision. The collision is currently being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
The deceased driver of the Ford was transported from the scene by Eyersole Mortuary. The death investigation is being handled by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The name of the deceased will be released by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, pending the notification of the deceased family
