The Northern Lights Shine Down on Mendocino County’s Northern Reaches

The sun let loose a coronal mass ejection on Friday, April 21, 2023. Two days later, a geomagnetic storm struck Earth causing the Northern Lights to be seen as far south as the United States/Mexico border.

On Sunday night, Bell Springs resident Emily Wood took these photographs of the ethereal lights shimmering in the skies above Northern Mendocino County.
