The following is a press release issued by the Ukiah Unified School District:
Ukiah Unified School District is seeking community members to join the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC). The CBOC makes sure Ukiah Unified is spending money as specified in the voter-approved Measure A bond language and reports to the Board and the public if they have any concerns.
In 2020, local voters approved Measure A, giving Ukiah Unified School District up to $75 million in bonds to renovate our facilities. As a part of this, Ukiah Unified is legally required to have an oversight committee consisting of at least seven volunteer members who serve a term of two years each. The committee’s composition must include representatives from the business community, a senior citizens’ organization, a taxpayer organization, and parents with children in Ukiah Unified.
Committee Positions Available:
1-2 At-Large Representatives
1 Business Organization Representative
1 Parent-Teacher Organization Representative
1 Senior Citizens’ Organization Representative
1 Taxpayer Organization Representative

CBOC membership is not a big commitment and does not take much time. The committee holds two meetings per year, typically in April and October, each lasting around 90 minutes, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. It’s important to note that the CBOC is an advisory body and doesn’t make decisions; rather, it evaluates projects and expenditures. The District provides an information package ahead of each meeting that is reviewed during the meeting.

CBOC membership is a great way to support some of the critical work of Ukiah Unified. For more information, contact Debbie Ornelas at 707.472.5002 or dornelas@uusd.net.
