Law enforcement and first responders have converged south of the Lake County community of Lower Lake after a man was fatally struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Reports emerged around 8:55 p.m. that a man in the area of State Route 29 and A Street was bleeding from his face and attempting to flag drivers down. First responders arrived on the scene and reported the man was deceased.

A fire engine at the scene told dispatch the circumstances point towards an apparent hit and run despite information from central dispatch that 4-5 shots were heard in the general area before the initial call out.

An officer on the scene went on to confirm that there were no gunshot wounds apparent on the victim.

As of 9:25 p.m., scanner traffic has given no indication of a suspect vehicle being sought by law enforcement.
