The following is a press release issued by the City of Ukiah:
On the south side (Mill to Gobbi), crews will be replacing the sewer line between Gobbi and Cherry. Travel lanes will continue to be open in both directions, and driveways are not expected to be impacted. Please drive carefully around construction crews. Towards the end of the week, weather permitting, work will begin on the joint trench, which will run along the west side of the street and contain underground electric and communication n lines.
On the north side (Norton to Henry), lots of work is happening on the sidewalks and driveways on both sides of the street. When new sidewalks are poured, pedestrian access can be allowed the next day. On driveways, however, it takes five or more days for the concrete to cure enough to handle vehicles…thank you for your patience!
We’ll also begin to see the bases for the new streetlights installed on the north side, and in the coming weeks, the traffic signal at Norton and State will be removed permanently. Because there is already a traffic signal at Scott and State, the removal of this extra light will help traffic flow more efficiently.
Where will the work occur? Installing new sewer lines on the south side, working southbound from Gobbi to Cherry; on the north side, work will be occurring on the sidewalks and driveways on both sides of State Street.
What are the construction days/hours? Construction hours will be Monday-Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Will there be dust and noise? Yes. There will be some noise associated with both sections of work, though not much dust, thanks to the wetter weather.
Will there be any disruptions to parking access or streets? Yes. On-street parking in the construction zone will be closed; however, we are working to open up some (temporary) on-street parking on the east side of North State Street. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained at all times. Through traffic on State Street will be allowed in both directions. Traffic signals at Gobbi/State and Mill/State will be on flash.
The new downtown street “renovations” are TERRIBLE! They force right turn traffic nearly into oncoming traffic or you have to drive over the curb extension! What bozo designed, approved, installed them! STOOPID! Another reason to avoid driving down town! Oops!
Poll
Polly Palecek, The walkability this project is creating is a wonderful thing for Ukiah. We will no longer have a race track downtown. Our kids can get around safely and business will likely be seen. As far as driving, I am sure there are courses you can take to better refine you driving skill and make you a happier person.
