A hiker is missing this evening west of Laytonville and first responders are making their way to the last known location to commence a hasty search.
The hiker is a woman who reportedly has access to a cell phone. Scanner traffic indicates that the officials at the scene have active telecommunications with her as they attempt to find her exact location.
Scanner traffic that began around 6:00 p.m. indicated fire personnel and deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were deployed to a location along Cahto Peak Road to search for the missing hiker. There was mention of deploying drones to assist in the search.
MCSO Lieutenant Quincy Cromer confirmed these details and told us he would provide updates as they become available.
UPDATE 6:38 p.m.: First responders at scene reported they are actively searching the area on foot for the missing hiker.
UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: Good News: The hiker has been located and is being escorted to safety by personnel at the scene.
