The following is a press release issued by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office:
On Thursday, April 18, 2024, our deputies responded to a report in the 2500 block of Lakeshore Blvd in Nice regarding a potential body sighted floating near a dock.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Ellen Louise Burton, 83, of Nice, unresponsive in the water. Unfortunately, it was determined that she had passed away before our deputies arrived.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit assisted in safely retrieving Ellen from the lake.
According to reports, Ellen was last seen by a neighbor around midnight the previous night. At this time, no foul play is suspected.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office wishes to express our deepest condolences to Ellen’s friends and family during this difficult time.
