On May 2, 2024 at approximately 4:40 PM, a Fort Bragg Police Officer received an anonymous tip regarding possible drug sales at a local motel. Units responded to the area to follow up on the information provided and contacted five subjects inside of a motel room in the 1200 block of S  Main St.

Upon contacting all five subjects inside of the room, Officers immediately noticed narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia inside of the room. One of the subjects, Daniel Sanchez, 34 of Fort  Bragg, was recognized as being on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and having an active felony warrant.

Officers conducted a protective sweep and located additional narcotics and narcotic sales paraphernalia inside. A search of the room revealed 41.83 grams of methamphetamine,  packaging materials, two digital scales, a large amount of United States currency, narcotic paraphernalia, and a working two-way radio that had been programmed to operate on law  enforcement channels. It was believed when officers knocked on the door, the subjects attempted to destroy evidence by throwing suspected methamphetamine on the floor in the bathroom.

Sanchez was arrested and transported to County Jail for the following violations: 3455(A) PC – PRCS violation, 11378 H&S – Possession of Methamphetamine for Sales, 182(A)(1) PC – Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, 636.5 PC – Utilizing a Police Scanner in the Commission of a  Crime, 11364(A) H&S – Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 135 PC – Destroying Evidence, and  the felony warrant.

Stefani Smith, 32 of Fort Bragg, was arrested and transported to Mendocino County Jail for the  following violations: 11378 H&S – Possession of Methamphetamine for Sales, 182(A)(1) PC  Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, 636.5 PC – Utilizing a Police Scanner in the Commission of a  Crime, and 135 PC – Destroying Evidence. Smith, who originally provided a name belonging to  another individual during the investigation, later provided her real name and it was determined  she had two citable warrants issued for her arrest. She was also arrested for 529(A) PC – False  Impersonation of Another, and two warrants.

Brittany Smith, 28 of Fort Bragg, Kole Parker, 22 of Fort Bragg, and Johan Espinosa, 40 of  Ukiah, were all arrested and transported to Mendocino County Jail for the following  violations: 11378 H&S – Possession of Methamphetamine for Sales, 182(A)(1) PC – Conspiracy  to Commit a Crime, and 636.5 PC – Utilizing a Police Scanner in the Commission of a Crime.

It was learned Parker was released from jail approximately two-months ago for a previous  possession of methamphetamine for sales case.

A bail enhancement was obtained for $50,000.00 for each individual.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact Ofc Frank of the Fort Bragg  Police Department at (707)961-2800 ext. 223.

  1. ???
I found myself praying for them. Why? Because I’ve been there. Deep in the throes of sin and bondage, and I KNOW that Jesus Christ can set them free and give them a new life. One with hope and a future. He’s the ONE who can. Please join me in prayer for them . ???

?Jesus came to save the lost, the sick, the bound, the broken those who need a physician, a lawyer, a Savior, a friend.

Not so we can continue in bondage and slavery to satan and sin, but so that we can be set free and have a RELATIONSHIP with Him (Jesus is Lord?)

? With love, from a repentant sinner saved by grace, forgiven, and washed in the blood of Jesus Christ!

  2. That is a baofeng uv5r two way/ham radio that can hear most frequencies including 154.845 the Fbpd frequency for many decades. By definition not a “police scanner”. They are cheap, and a great radio for hearing jd frank stop people for nothing.

    • Sorry your buddies got arrested and you can’t get any meth right now. Way to go Frank, keep up the good work!

    • FYI
A “police scanner” is just a euphemism denoted for consumers to identify a radio “Receiver” that includes police radio bands, often among many others.

The baofend uv5r is a Transceiver.
It can be used in just the same way, as it has a scan function to monitor 20-30 frequencies on a loop (I don’t remember the spec on that particular model).

ANY Radio Receiver/Transceiver used in the commission of a crime will fit the bill for charges under 636.5 PC, particularly if it is tuned to the frequecy(ies) (or is in scan mode with those frequencies included in the scan list) used by the arresting agency at the time of arrest.

Also, it’s not really a HAM radio in that it can transmit on many bands far outside the list of HAM bands, in violation of many FCC rules.

      • Good point….White trash and brown trash there’s really no difference.

  3. F.B.P.D. has been doing great work in attempts to clean up the community. Good job on getting these clowns off the street. Everybody has a choice and with every choice there’s a result. I don’t feel bad for these people one bit. Throw away the key, these people are threat to society. Thanks to the officers who put their life on the line to protect the citizens of Fort Bragg!

  5. Where can I pick up one of those fancy radios? eBay maybe? They are not illegal to own unless you are listening to it while committing a crime. Unbelievable. Thanks Gov. Brown and Newsom. Every law passed is a freedom lost. Some make sense and some don’t.

    • Amen to that!!! We needed a good new cop like Frank to clean this town up finally!!!! Like O’neal and Naulty did. LOVE IT!!

    • I’d have to agree with this one. Frank wrote me a ticket, but he is really involved with the community and seems to care about it. Hopefully he continues to make these busts!! #LoveFrank!
