Authorities are investigating a series of early morning fires that ignited along a rural roadway south of Hopland in Mendocino County over the past week.
The first fire was reported on Tuesday, June 11, at 6:03 a.m., followed by a second blaze on Wednesday, June 12, at 5:58 a.m. The third fire ignited on Monday, June 17, at 6:09 a.m., according to Hopland Fire Protection District Chief Mitch Franklin.
All three fires occurred along Mountain House Road, a winding north-south route that connects State Route 128 and Highway 101 between Hopland and Cloverdale.
“Yes, all three fires are under investigation,” said Chief Franklin. “Any and all fires are investigated.”
Mountain House Road is bordered by dry grasses and flora typical of Mendocino County’s oak chaparral, creating a landscape that is highly susceptible to fires. The cause of the fires has yet to be determined, but authorities are actively investigating the incidents.
The Hopland Fire Protection District has urged residents and travelers along Mountain House Road to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or signs of fire immediately.
In light of these recent incidents, Chief Franklin said, “Fire season is here. Be careful.”
