On June 20, 2024, at approximately 4:31 pm, officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Clear Lake Area, responded to a report of a solo vehicle collision on State Route 29, north of Western Mine Road, in an unincorporated area of Lake County, involving a 2003 Toyota Camry.  A preliminary investigation indicated the unidentified adult male driver was driving the Toyota northbound on State Route 29, north of Western Mine Road, at a high rate-of-speed.  For reasons pending further investigation, the driver lost control of the Toyota and it struck a tree east of the roadway.

As a result of the collision, the driver and one of two male adult passengers sustained major injuries.  They were transported by helicopter to a hospital in Santa Rosa.  The second passenger (identification pending next-of-kin notification) sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by CalFire.

Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Five Star Towing also responded to the scene and assisted CHP.  State Route 29, at this location, was reduced to one-way traffic control during the course of the on-scene investigation.

All occupants were wearing their safety belts.  Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in this collision.  The collision is being investigated by CHP Officer A. Sanchez.
