The following is a press release issued by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office:
On July 4, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, a collision occurred on Clear Lake involving two vessels shortly after the Lakeport Fireworks display. A 2019 Ranger bass boat, operated by a single individual, was traveling east on Clear Lake when it collided with a 2017 Sun Tracker Pontoon boat carrying eight occupants.
As a result of the collision, the operator of the pontoon boat was ejected into the water and subsequently transported by Air Ambulance to an out-of-county hospital for treatment. The remaining seven occupants of the pontoon boat, as well as the operator of the bass boat, reported no injuries.
At this time, alcohol is not suspected to have contributed to this collision. However, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
I wonder if either operator had taken and passed the required boating course. Further did they have their lights on?
Good question but if they Are over 50 then that course isn’t even required.
thats what I was wondering- when a boater isn’t using their lights it can be hard to see them in the water. I hope the ejected boater is recovering okay.
