Step Back in Time on the Mendocino Coast at Little River Museum

The following is a press release issued by the Little River Museum:

John P. Soule (1828-1904) was a photographer from Boston who is credited as taking this stereoscopic image of rocks at the mouth of Ten Mile River. However, many of these images have been re-attributed to the photographer Martin Mason Hazeltine. Soule, also a publisher of stereoviews, purchased many of Hazeltine’s California negatives, copyrighted them in 1870, and began selling them in Boston. The one of Ten Mile River copyrighted in 1870 is an example (California State Library).

The Little River Museum will be open 11-4 this Saturday and Sunday and every weekend this summer. Come see our Antique Train Exhibit, map to the Little River Pioneer Cemetery, including veteran and Civil War sites, locate old abandoned local railroad track sites, hold an owl egg, pick up free postcards, maps to local Pomo Indian trails, and pamphlets on Humane Exclusion of local wildlife. Built in 1885 as the Good Templars Hall, the little white cottage with the red geraniums houses an architectural surprise. 8185 Highway One, it’s on the east side at the top of the Van Damme Beach “S: curve.
