A small SUV erupted in flames on Orr Springs Road west of Ukiah this afternoon, with initial reports indicating possible explosions from the vehicle fire. A column of smoke was visible from the Ukiah Valley floor.

A firefighter on the scene reported that the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames but, fortunately, the fire did not spread to nearby vegetation.

Initially air and ground resources were deployed but once the Incident Commander got on scene air attack was canceled and ground resources converged on the incident to control the flames.

According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page, the driver successfully exited the vehicle before it ignited.
