A series of wildfires burning along State Route 29 have forced the road’s closure in Lake County along the western shores of Clear Lake. However, the forward spread on the Mockingbird Fire has been stopped.

A full wildland fire response has been activated, with both ground and air resources deployed to combat the multiple fires burning along State Route 29. One of these, the “Mockingbird Fire,” is burning near the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and State Route 29 and has currently spread to 2 acres. It is reportedly burning on the south side of the highway.

The “Post Fire,” burning near the Lake County community of Lakeport, has been described in initial reports as a 50-by-50-foot spot fire moving uphill. The fire is reportedly in the area of 11th Street and State Route 29.

Caltrans Quickmap indicates that traffic is significantly slowed in the area of the fires, adding to the disruption caused by the closures and firefighting efforts.

UPDATE 4:03 p.m.: Hwy 29 is open now. The fire is contained and firefighters are mopping up.
