A 41-year-old woman from Arcata was found deceased in a Ukiah creek bed last Thursday, August 22, 2024, in what authorities are investigating as a fatal hit-and-run collision.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Ukiah Office issued a press release stating that officers were called to investigate “a hit-and-run collision on US-101 northbound, south of Lake Mendocino Drive, resulting in the death of a female pedestrian.” The woman was identified as Aimee R. Younkin of Arcata.

Investigators have determined that the crash occurred “between the dates of August 8, 2024, and August 10, 2024.”

A community member told us they witnessed Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies carry a body bag from Hensley Creek, a watershed that intersects with Highway 101 south of the Lake Mendocino Drive exit, while CHP officers searched a nearby hillside for evidence.

The CHP is actively investigating the incident and is urging anyone with information to contact their Ukiah Area office at (707) 467-4420.

  1. Driving itself, is the most dangerous, obscene, murderous activity.
Whatever happened to the anti drunk driving campaigns? People who speed off after hitting someone are usually drunk or high.
I’m so sick of seeing impaired, speeding and distracted drivers speeding down the road.
    Driving sux

  2. Very sad Aimee Younkin died as a result of hit and run. I did not know her but she was a fellow human. CHP reports she was hit on hwy 101 but found deceased about 10 days later off 101 in creek area between 101 and North State St. She likely died an excoriating death alone. There is a hit and run driver out there right now who has not been held to account for their crime. I hope the hit and run driver comes forward voluntarily or barring is arrested by law enforcement. She is gone now but a criminal remains on the loose.
