Law enforcement is converging on an property east of Brooktrails after multiple gunshots were reported and a male subject was allegedly heard screaming for help.

As per scanner traffic, the incident reportedly began around 1:53 p.m. when dispatch received a call about six gunshots near the 28900 block of Sherwood Road. Shortly after, a male voice was heard calling for assistance.

Scanner traffic indicates that a suspect fled the scene in a utility terrain vehicle (UTV), specifically a KTM Side-by-Side, heading in the direction of Willits. Fire and medical crews are staged nearby, waiting for law enforcement to secure the scene.

These reports prompted emergency personnel at Howard Memorial Hospital in Willits to be placed on alert for a possible inbound trauma patient. An air ambulance is also on standby ready to respond based on the status of the subject.

UPDATE 5:46 p.m.: Despite the extensive initial information broadcasted, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Quincy Cromer told us deputies found the incident was “not as reported” and possibly merely “a truck backfiring”.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

  1. What happened in Ukiah on the walk trail on September 12th?

Between Gobbi and Perkins, (on the walk trail) a person’s dead body was found yet nobody is reporting on it, as far as I know.

There was police presence in the afternoon between 2:30/3:00 p.m. at the end of Cleveland Lane for this reason.

I think we need to know what happened and WHY the public isn’t informed about these types of incidents.
