On September 14, 2024, at approximately 2:45pm an inmate, Billy Ray Neldon, 36, walked away from the Lake County Jail located on Hill Road in Lakeport.

Neldon was performing his assigned work duties in the kitchen at the time he walked away.

Neldon was serving a county jail prison term for vandalism and was scheduled to be released in January.

If you see Neldon or have any information on his whereabouts please do not make contact with him and call 911.

  1. How do you just walk away from jail? I guess the dumb answer is on 2 feet, but how? Isn’t there fences with razor wire. Sorry for my incarceration ignorance but I’ve only been to jail 1 time, in Eureka 15 years ago, and I was there for about 4 hours.

  2. When they allow inmates to work in the kitchen cooking or cleaning it’s because they have a nonviolent crime and not a lot of criminal charges . Also the guy had a release date in January and he’d be free to go. Now he has extra time and no kitchen job. No brain no pain !
