[UPDATE: Good News]Rescue underway for reported asthma attack in rugged Mendocino backcountry

A rescue helicopter is on its way to a remote area of Mendocino County where an individual reportedly suffering from an asthma attack is stranded in steep terrain, according to authorities.

The initial reports came in at 8:01 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, indicating the subject is located along the Covelo-side of Spy Rock Road. Emergency responders are navigating the rugged area, with dispatch advising the most direct route involves traveling on Mina Road to Summit Road and passing through several gated access points.

Sonoma County’s Henry-1 helicopter, specialized in hoist rescues, accepted the request for assistance and is currently en route to the location.


UPDATE 9:00 p.m.: New details have emerged about the patient and the situation. According to dispatch, the patient is a bicyclist who is located down a steep hill near a residence. This information was relayed to the rescue helicopter.


UPDATE 9:39 p.m.: Henry-1, the helicopter from Sonoma County, successfully extricated the patient and is transporting them for medical treatment.
