The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Anaheim Police Department in the search for a missing man, identified only as Kojoe, after his car was found abandoned in rural Mendocino County.

A press release issued by MCSO describes Kojoe as a 59-year-old black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen in Anaheim on June 26 and was reportedly planning a trip to Yosemite National Park, with plans to return on June 29. However, Kojoe never returned, and his phone now goes straight to voicemail, according to family members.

On Aug. 16, the California Highway Patrol discovered Kojoe’s vehicle, a black 2009 Infiniti M35, on State Route 128 near Navarro, a few miles east of the Paul Dimmick Campground. Initial and follow-up searches by Search and Rescue teams in the surrounding area failed to produce any leads.

The Anaheim Police Department continues to investigate his disappearance.

Anyone with information about Kojoe’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at 707-463-4086 or the anonymous tip line at 707-234-2100.

  1. “his phone goes straight to voicemail” There is no cell service there anyway so he could have his working phone with him and this still happen.

  2. Coming from Anaheim to “Yosemite” and finding the car 280 miles/5 hours drive north of Yosemite, he probably wasn’t going to Yosemite like he told his family.

    • That or he ran into an issue and had the car stolen, or some other negative fate. It’s hard to say until he turns up. I passed what I presume was the car numerous times over several days and slowly saw parts disappear and the windows get smashed, as is normal on any rural road in the area when a car is left more than 24 hours. IMO the CHP needs to tow cars ASAP when abandoned unless there is a note from the owner as it quickly becomes an attraction to thieves and people looking for something to destroy.

  3. So, he’s been missing for five months. His car was found two months ago hundreds of miles from his destination? LEO didn’t track e his phone when he went missing to find his lady location or even after the phone was found? He could have been carjacked months ago in Modesto, Fresno, Merced, any of those places near his destination and his car could have just been dumped here.
