[UPDATE: EVACUATION WARNINGS LIFTED] ‘Mina Fire’ Burns Structures and Woodland in Round Valley

A large wildfire dubbed the “Mina Fire” is burning in Round Valley near Covelo’s Hopper Lane and Crawford Road. According to scanner reports at approximately 6:30 pm, the fire is holding at approximately 50 acres burning structures as well as timber and oak woodlands.  [NOTE:  Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.] ‘Mina Fire’ Burns Structures and Woodland in Round Valley

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has issued an evacuation warning that reads as follows:

EVACUATION WARNINGS ISSUED – COVELO AREA

East of Refuge Road (by the dump)
North of Charlie Hurt Highway
East of Mina Road
South of Zenia Road
and south end of Perry Ridge

Be advised of a fire in the area of Hopper Lane/Crawford Road in the Covelo area. Fire and law will be in the area with large equipment and apparatus so please avoid this area to help keep the roads clear for them.

MCSO has extended the boundaries of the evacuation area associated with the “Mina Fire’:

EVAC WARNING FOR COVELO AREA NORTH OF REFUSE RD AND CHARLIE HURT HIGHWAY. EAST OF RIFLE RANGE RD AND THE DUMP. WEST OF MINA RD. SOUTH OF ZENIA RD. EVAC WARNING AREAS INCLUDE LEDGER LANE, HOPPER LANE, CRAWFORD RD.

MCSO has also requested civilians do not travel to the site of the fire:

PLEASE SHARE – If you’re going down to look at the #MinaFire please don’t! The number of cars are creating a secondary hazard.
