Just before noon today, a vehicle crashed into a tree on Hwy 101 at mile marker 98.3 north of Leggett. When officers arrived on the scene, there was one man with major injuries at the car, but, the driver, a woman, and a four to six-year-old child had left the scene, California Highway Patrol Officer Rick Fowler told us this afternoon. He said the two were last seen walking northbound on 101.
Though the two appeared to be uninjured, according to one witness, Fowler said he was concerned because of the extent of the man’s injuries that the woman may not realize that she had serious internal injuries even though she may have initially thought she was unhurt. He pointed out that she could have left the scene concerned about getting in trouble for a relatively minor offence like driving without a license or something similar, but she could be needing medical treatment.
The injured man was unable to give many details about the situation, Fowler told us.
