At approximately 9:45 a.m. today, ambulance and fire personnel responded to the intersection of Crawford Road and Refuse Road in Covelo regarding a report of an unresponsive individual. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten said first responders arrived at the scene and found the unresponsive individual was inside a running vehicle and was, in fact, deceased.

As this point in the investigation, Captain Van Patten said there was “nothing outwardly suspicious and an autopsy with blood alcohol/toxicology analysis is probably needed for cause of death.”

Captain Van Patten characterized the decedent as a 64-year-old homeless woman who stayed with her friends at times and also in a car.
