The California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicates that at approximately 5:26 this morning a multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lane of Highway 101 near the intersection with Highway 128 left one person dead and the northbound lane closed.
The incident page indicates that the collision left “four vehicles blocking all lanes” and described them as “badly mangled.” The coroner has been dispatched the scene. Tow trucks are also on site working to clear the roadway for traffic.
As per the CHP incident page, one person was life flighted from the scene and early reports indicated that a off-duty CHP officer described one party lying in the roadway.
As confirmed with the Ukiah CHP dispatch, the northbound lane is completely closed near the intersection of Highway 101 and 128 but the south bound is open. Ukiah CHP dispatch told us there is no estimated time for reopening of the northbound lane.
UPDATE 9:04 p.m.
The Caltrans Quickmap is still indicating northbound traffic on Highway 101 is blocked as crews clean-up the debris associated with the multi-vehicle collision.
UPDATE 10:02 a.m.
The Caltrans Quickmap states the number one lane of Highway 101 is open to controlled traffic. The Quickmap does indicate traffic is still significantly backed up.
UPDATE 10:35 a.m.
The northbound lane of Highway 101 is now reopened completely, as per the Caltrans Quickmap.
