[Updates: Forward Progress Stopped]1/2 Acre Vegetation Fire Reportedly ‘Burning Up a Hill’ Along Highway 101 North of Willits

Scanner traffic indicates significant firefighting units have been dispatched to a 1/2 acre fire located on the west side of Highway 101 north of Willits between Sherwood Road and Longvale.

The reporting party indicated the fire is burning “up a hill.”

Dispatch is requesting a plethora of resources including firefighting aircraft.

UPDATE 8:19 p.m.: Laytonville Fire Department Chief Sue Carberry said the fire is made up of two fires, 1/4 acre each, and has a slow rate of spread burning in grasslands. She added that power lines are down and she has cancelled all air resources.

UPDATE 9:10 p.m.: Laytonville Fire Department Chief Sue Carberry told us the fire’s forward progress has stopped. She clarified that despite initial reports of two spot fires, she has since learned that the incident contained three separate fires. Scanner traffic indicates the fire’s total acreage stands at 1.5 and suggests 4-5 hours will be needed for “heavy mop up.”
