Press release from the CHP:
[Two occupants in a 2017 Jeep Cherokee] were traveling northbound on West Rd west of [Zahadoom] Way at an unknown speed, when for an unknown reason [the driver] lost control of [the vehicle], causing [it] to travel off the the roadway and collide with a tree. Due to the force of the collision [the Jeep] caught fire. Passing motorist assisted [the passenger] from the vehicle but due to the flames in the vehicle intensifying they were unable to get [the driver] out of the vehicle. Redwood Valley Fire personnel arrived on scene and was able to extinguish the fire, [the driver] sustained fatal injuries from the collision and [the passenger] sustained major injuries. The collision is still under investigation and the identity of [the driver] is being withheld until their identity is [confirmed] and the family is notified by the Mendocino County Sheriffs Office.
