After a brief pursuit, a California Highway Patrol Officer and a Round Valley Tribal Police Officer are reportedly surrounded by four, uncooperative and hostile subjects who occupied the vehicle they pulled over.
The California Highway Patrol is reported via scanner at 5:55 p.m. a vehicle they attempted to pull over near the intersection of State Route 162 and Crawford Road in Covelo initially failed to yield, resulting in a short pursuit.
As of 6:10 p.m., the four subjects are reportedly pulled over on the side of SR 162 and at one point had barricaded themselves in the vehicle.
State Parks and Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office have been deployed to support CHP.
UPDATE 6:24 p.m.: The officer at scene described the event to dispatch. The vehicle was pulled over and a minor use-of-force circumstance resulted from detaining the suspect. At that point, a group of subjects in the vicinity of the stop became hostile towards law enforcement and began intimidating the officers.
UPDATE 6:34 p.m.: The vehicle pursuit ended near the 100 block of Pit River in Covelo providing an explanation as to how multiple nearby subjects could converge on the officers and begin intimidating them.
