Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Highway 101 South of Willits

Categories:

Scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicate a pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 101 south of Willits. The #2 southbound lane of Highway 101 is now closed as law enforcement gathers evidence from the scene.

At 6:40 p.m. initial reports came into dispatch in which the reporting party advised they thought they hit a pedestrian that was pushing a shopping cart near the Ridgewood Summit south of Willits. The shopping cart associated with the pedestrian was lying in the roadway after the collision, as was debris from the vehicle that struck the pedestrian. At approximately 6:58 p.m., law enforcement confirmed over the scanner that the pedestrian was deceased.

The reporting party who, according to reports, was the driver who struck the pedestrian, told dispatch that they pulled onto the shoulder near the scene after the incident.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.
