Pedestrian Jumping In and Out of Traffic Along State Route 20 in Lake County Dies After Being Struck

A tragic circumstance is unfolding on Highway 20 in the Lake County town of Nice after a vehicle struck a pedestrian that was reportedly jumping in and out of traffic resulting in the individual’s death.

Scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicate at approximately 10:23 p.m. initial reports emerged that an elderly white male adult was jumping in and out of the eastbound lane of Highway 20. At 10:35 p.m., the pedestrian was reportedly struck.

Dispatch was able to provide responding officers with a description of the vehicle that struck the man. By 10:36 p.m. dispatch informed responding officers that the man’s body was lying in the roadway.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office is responding to the scene and the incident log has been removed from the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page, a common practice when an incident results in a fatality.
