CalTrans Crews and the California Highway Patrol are stretched thin this evening as winter weather bore bears down on the Mayacama Mountain closing State Route 20 temporarily and now State Route 175 between Hopland and Lakeport.
Officials on the scene have been gauging the impact of snow on commuters since 6:30 p.m. Multiple vehicles were stuck including a UPS truck.
Around 7:00 p.m. vehicles without four-wheel drive were being actively turned around. At approximately 7:20 p.m., officials spoke to shutting down the roadway on the Mendocino County side but that has not become official.
SR-175 and SR-20 are the primary east-to-west routes between Mendocino and Lake Counties. Since SR-20 was shut down earlier this evening, congestion could be exacerbated due to commuters attempting to cross the county line via a different route.

Just don’t drive in snowy conditions especially the Hopland grade. What were they thinking? duh!
