Mexican police pulled over 25-year-old Mendocino County woman, Natalia Baigorri, and 32-year-old Arizona man, Devan Young, as they were driving on a highway near Tulum this last Saturday, February 26.

The traffic stop would result in the pair being taken into custody after police located two 9mm Glocks, a .22 caliber rifle, multiple rounds of ammunition, and the passport of an American.

Reporting in The Yucutan Times and The Daily Mail provided information on this couple, the arrest, and the ongoing investigation.

A Mexican television network Noticieros Televisa reported the couple is thought to be linked to “a string of criminal incidents in the country and also connected to the disappearance of an American individual.”

Along with the firearms and ammunition, Mexican police located what was described as “a sensor that detects if security cameras are functioning” and an American passport of a 28-year-old man. It is unknown whether or not Zeitz is the missing American Baigorri and Young are linked to.

Baigorri is from the coastal town of Mendocino. Young is from Arizona and the identification card he provided indicated he is a tribal member of the Erie Indian Moundbuilders in Arizona.

Baigorri and Young have yet to be formally charged, according to reporting in the Daily Mail, and a spokesperson for Mexico’s Office of the Attorney General’s regional station in Cancún “could not say when they are expected to appear in court.”

*UPDATE: As per the request of the 28-year-old American whose passport was found on the couple, we have removed their name and the image of the passport published by the Policia Municipal Tulum.

  1. I’ve been searched several times by federaly thugs. Gringos are fair game. A gang pulled everyting out of our van onto the highway and one was playing my guitar when an officer showed up. Suddenly they became professional.
Don’t carry guns or drugs in Mexico if you ain’t local with a gang on your side.

  2. Hi – my name is Lian Zeitz and am writing to request you take down the photo of my passport that was posted without my permission. I am not missing and this post has potential for identity theft. Please remove immediately or I will have to take legal action.

  4. “Erie Indian Moundbuilders” is not a real Tribe – it is a scam LLC of James Oliver Johnson III, a.k.a. Abdul Muta’Ali Head-Nur Abdullah-Muhammad, of Erie, PA.
